Pages 11 Inspector Control (side panel)
I wish to know how to open a document in Pages without the side panel/Inspector opening. How can I toggle it off so that when I open a document it does not automatically open.
MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.0

Hi Ugot,
Although it's probably not a bug, this does cry out for a Feature Enhancement request
asking for a user preference setting to prevent the automatic opening,
or for the Inspector panels to default to 'closed' by default, and require a user action (and user need!) to open them, as is the case in previous versions.
You'll find the Provide Pages Feedback menu item in the Pages menu.
Regards,
Barry

There are no preferences settings to cause the Inspector panel (option+cmd+i) to be hidden when opening a document. Even if you hid the Inspector prior to closing the document, that will not cause the Inspector to be hidden on a subsequent open event.
Thanks for your reply, I thought that might be the answer. I guess once again Apple knows better. Even though their users may wish to control this option, Apple has spoken and there is no work around.
Correct…
My reaction above pertained not to my Mac, which I love, rather to the design of Pages. It lacks the flexibility for a user to select how they wish the program to open. Each time it opens one has to close “forms” in the side panel, if it is not needed.
Well, you are not restricted to using Pages just because you own a Mac.
