iphone 12 flashing apple no boot

Just took delivery of an iphone 12, the very next day it wouldnt power on. Apple logo flashes when plugged in. Managed to get the restore screen up when connected to my laptop, itunes downloaded update files to do a system restore but the iphone keeps dropping its connection to the laptop and itunes cannot proceed. Have an appointment with apple this afternoon as at&t told me it had to be a warranty claim as wouldnt return it without it being restored otherwise will have to pay full amount of the phone.

I have a feeling apple is going to want to send it away with me leaving without a phone. Anyone else have a similar experience and able to share insights/guidance?

You can totally reject it inside 14 days and buy another one 5 minutes later if they refuse to swap it

(most countries except India)

Work all through it.

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen - Apple Support

There is no guarantee you can save any data since your last backup if you need to use the Restore option.
