Which New IPad??

I currently have a 2017 iPad Pro 10.5. It’s time for a new iPad and I am going back-and-forth between an iPad Air and an iPad Pro. It looks like the biggest difference is the chip. I don’t game on it and I watch movies on it infrequently. I mainly use it to read and play word games and go on social media and browse the Internet. What will the pro do for me that the air won’t for the extra $200?

I appreciate any and all advice and opinions!

iPad Pro, iPadOS 14

It's difficult to give you an appropriate suggestion (the choice is always subjective)

If you are referring to the Air 4th generation and Pro 11" 3rd generation iPad models, reading what your daily needs are, in my opinion the Air 4th generation model could be enough, keeping in mind all the differences between the two devices specs. This page might be helpful for an in-depth comparison:--> https://www.apple.com/ipad/compare/?modelList=ipad-pro-11-3rd-gen,ipad-air-4th-gen.

Aside from the more powerful CPU, principal benefits of the current 2021 iPad Pro models over the iPad Air4 are:

  • Larger screen - the 12.9” also benefiting from the XDR display with miniLED backlighting technology.
  • Four Speakers - that dynamically adapt stereo left/right as the iPad is rotated between portrait and landscape screen orientation.
  • FaceID - instead of TouchID
  • Significantly better camera arrays
  • More RAM - 8GB, or 16GB for the 1TB/2TB storage models (versus the 4GB of the Air4)

For your stared uses, the additional hardware benefits may be of limited benefit - but you might reasonably argue that the higher specification of the iPads Pro allow future-proofing your needs as your uses potentially expand or develop.
