Trying to update Java and got this: failed to uninstall Java: XPC connection error. Mac OSX 10.15.7
How can I resolve this?
I see that the question has been asked before, but I am unable to find previous replies or solutions.

I was attempting to download it from a window that popped up periodically when I opened Safari. It would show that it was installing, then fail at the point where it was supposed to be removing the old version and open the "XPC connection error."
The version from the website appears to have worked, thank you. Someone (Apple? Safari?) needs to clean up the code that keeps failing, IMHO!

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities! We'd be happy to help get Java updated on your Mac. How are you going about downloading the update? The latest version can be downloaded directly from the Oracle website. Check out: Get Java for your Mac.

I am on Monterey, and with the new Log4J hack running worldwide, I definitely want to un-install java, which I have not used for (more than) 6 month. But I get the XPC error too. Updating java gives a way to uninstall it, but the un-install does not work. Is this. because I am on an ARM mac? The Intel Mac un-installed Java okay.
