Quick reply not working on lock screen iOS 15

I just updated my iPhone SE to iOS 15 and can no longer quick reply to text messages from the lock screen. "Reply with Message" is turned on, "Show Previews" is turned on, and it always worked before the update. I've done a couple of hard resets and double checked every setting, nothing works.


I know how it's supposed to work - I've tried holding down the notification, no message box ever appears. If I swipe left, I see the "View" button, but I nothing happens when I press it. The only way I can respond to the message is by swiping right and unlocking the phone.


How do I regain the ability to quick reply?

Let's make sure you've updated to the latest iOS 15.1. Apple's updates contain software that is critical to the operation of your iPhone: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Next, toggle "Reply with Messages" off, restart the iPhone and toggle it back on in order to make the iPhone recognize the setting.
