Any way to prevent Maps from zooming in when you type in an address?

When I'm using the Maps app on my Mac, I am usually wanting to see the location relative to the other landmarks. Someone at Apple thought it would be a good idea to zoom in on the location that you've typed in (which makes you lose sight of all the landmarks.) I find this really frustrating. Does anyone have an idea of how to override this automatic zooming behavior, i.e. so that when you type in an address and hit enter, the location shows up on the map, but without zooming in on it?

I had hoped there would be a preference for this, but if there is, I'm not finding it.

Maps does not have that kind of customization.
