iMessage voice note bug?

When voice notes exceed a certain length they no longer show the time (from the sender's side) and appear as an audio file on the receiver's side. Is this meant to happen? It really negatively affects the user experience when sending voice notes.

PS: This is the case on both my iPad and iPhone - my experience from iOS 15 and iPadOS 15.

I'm having the same issue. I just updated to 15.2, and now my received messages are showing up as .caf files, which has never happened before. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple Support just now, and in the end, they sent me to this thread and concluded that it's "expected behavior." I'm not convinced that it is, though. Anyone else experiencing this?

Older audio messages are still displaying in-line, but as 0:00 (instead of showing the time duration, which they did previously).

Welcome to Apple Support Communities Dippen22,

Thank you for posting! From our understanding, when you send a voice message in Messages, the duration is not showing, is that right? You mentioned that you were experiencing this on iOS 15, are you running the latest version ( iOS 15.1)? Does this continues if you restart your iPhone? You can close out the Messages app prior to restarting it.

Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch

Restart your iPhone

Hope that helps!

Hey @ll.

Not sure if this is normal behavior tbh. I have the same issue and I belive this was not the case before iOS 15 !

How ever, I have this issue in a group chat and cannot confirm that it has something to do with the duration. Its kind of random.

In other iMessage chats ( not group chats ) this is not the case even over two minutes ... Maybe that helps to find the "bug"

Kind regards from Germany and stay safe

Also have this issue or maybe it’s not me but when I receive from a friend. It’s a pain in the *** because the phone locks and you have to keep you finger on the screen and move it every now and then but if you do too much it gets out of it. There’s no fast forward either so if you have a long message it can take like 20 listens to get to the end and drives you crazy
