Why is there still a 1px gap between the menu bar and applications?

This is incredibly small but so annoying (especially in dark mode). The menu bar has been the same size for years and I don't understand why you stop short 1px from using up the entire screen. This has existed for the last couple of OS releases and I don't understand why you haven't resolved this inconsistency.
