My lightning cable EarPods are not working

My iphone doesn’t recognise my EarPods when inserted. At first I thought it was the headphones but in i plugged them to my friends iPhone 8 and they worked normally. Before I cleared the debris inside the charging port the charger was working normally and it still does but my headphones won’t. Any idea why that is happening
