How to stop iphone from playing music automatically when connected

When the iPhone connects to my car audio over USB (e.g. when recharging), it wants to play music automatically. Usually it grabs the first song, alphabetically, which I have now heard 6000 times for the first 20 seconds. How does one shut the phone up? It is highly annoying that it just assumes I want music when I'm plugging in my phone to charge.

And if I have Yahoo TV playing, it over-rides that too and plays music instead of the TV app. So I have to manually open the iphone, put music on pause, quit the TV app, re-start the TV app and then it finally plays the TV app I had running over the speaker.

Is there just some way to force the iphone NOT to automatically play music? I would prefer to listen to music when I open the app for music and choose a track.

The vehicle is not a CarPlay function, it is from the USB connection expecting something like an iPod, or other music player. As the other poster stated, this is a function of the radio in the vehicle and is expected behavior. You should be able to select something similar to Media on the car's radio system to see if there is a setting you can change.

Have called support. Same line, it can't be disabled in IOS, some newer cars have a setting to defeat it. I believe Apple considers auto-playing the music app a "feature". Similar to the process of downloading one pic at a time if you ever opt-out of icloud photos, another nice feature from Apple.

Actually this is not a CarPlay software or anything impo that would be from the vehicle prompt. The vehicle is a 10 year old toyota and it is on a USB charge next to the cigarette lighter. I have removed CarPlay from the iphone since it is so disruptive and finicky with a newer subaru as well. The iphone, IoS, senses the car connection and triggers its music software app to load and play music, starting with the first alphabetical song no less. Please address by adding a toggle to turn off this 'feature'.

I have a similar issue with an 8 yr old GMC. While I like my music playlists, I don't expect to be assaulted with my own music each time I connect my phone to charge while I drive.

Did you contact Apple support and did they give you any methods to resolve the issue?
