iMac won't let me add an HP printer

Okay, so I've had this prob for two days. I've read numerous forums, tried everything, cried buckets in frustration, had various conversations with virtual agents and real agents, tried all the fixes suggested but no luck. I was about to try something on a forum which was to do with inputting numerous stuff and deleting things like cups etc on the Terminal. Didn't need to do that. Just fixed it so I'm answering my own problem so anyone else with the problem can give it a try. My printer worked fine before, but when it wouldn't print anything yesterday I thought it would be a good idea after trying various things to delete the printer in system preferences from the panel using the minus key thinking if I re-added it it might resolve the printing issue but I couldn't re-add it no matter what I did and clearly my mac would not recognise the printer (thought the printer worked with him indoors's laptop so it wasn't the printer at fault). So it's now working. This is what I did: 1. deleted said printer from the macbook pro - him indoors won't be pleased but I don't care! 2. Switched off the wireless network on the printer. 3.Switched off the printer altogether. 4. Switched off broadband for 30mins. 5 Switched broadband back on. 6. On the printer followed the instructions to connect to the network via the WPS button. Whirring noises sounded promising. 7. Went back to imac system preferences and for the zillionth time clicked on the plus sign to try and add the printer. Hurrah! It added it immediately. So in short, I think the problem was the macbook pro sharing of the printer and switching that off and restarting everything sorted it out. Might not have needed to switch off broadband at all but anyway it worked. Obviously I'd restarted everything lots of times before - though hadn't turned off the broadband until as above. But I think the printer only recognised the laptop and not my imac once i'd deleted it from the list (the list of one printer only though). I'm a genius! Hope it helps someone anyway. Heading for three cups of strong coffee and a chocolate biscuit now and will then hopefully print the 365 pages I should have printed yesterday! Good luck.
