Selective transfer of data from one iMac to another

I am awaiting delivery of new iMac. I have years of stuff accumulated on old iMac that I do not wish to transfer. Is it possible to selectively transfer, eg. Mails? So much of what is on my current iMac is junk, old apps, etc that would overwhelm the hard disk on a basic 2221 iMac M1

Thank you,

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.12

If you use Target Disk Mode to transfer you can selectively transfer files and apps. However you cannot selectively transfer emails. To be honest I would recommend cleaning up the old Mac, back up to Time Machine and then follow the Setup Assistant steps in Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant to the letter! Please note if you have any old 32 bit apps on the old Mac they will not migrate or run. You need to update or upgrade them to 64bit versions. If you are not sure which third party apps are 32 bit, then update each of the ones you want and you can use roaringapps.com to locate them.

Use nothing but the tools that are part of Mac OS. NEVER install any third party maintenance tools. Please look in the Apps-Utilities folder and you will discover the tools you need. If you suspect duplicates you can use FindAnyFile and search for the duplicates. Also learn how to use Activity Monitor. Oh my goodness! Your reply almost cost me a night's sleep. I have been relying on CleanMyMac for ten years or more. Now I must review the situation. Before I set about uninstalling it, can you suggest an alternative? There must be some way to declutter my iMacs and MacBook Air. But I do appreciate your advice and would be thrilled if you could advise me on another way to fulfil the tasks CleanMyMac says it carries out,

Renewed thanks,,

Pat
