How to create a bootable installer for macOS - Apple Support

Make sure that your command is formatted correctly. Instead of typing the command, try copying the following:

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/[MyVolume]

If you're running macOS Sierra or earlier on your Mac, you might need to try this argument instead:

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/[MyVolume] --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app
