Hi Apple,
While well intended, this "feature" is a dumb idea, sorry.
Could you please tell your software team to get rid of this with the next iOs update?
I regularly purchase phones for other family members. This will get old fast, to have to work around (in fact, it's only day 3, and it already got old :)).
There is a backup prompt when stetting up the new phone from an old phone. Just leave it at that, please.
Thank you!

This just happened on my phone, after purchasing a new phone for my son while logged in via my own Apple ID on the Apple website.
If you don't want to do a backup right now, don't. Simply turning off iCloud Backup, then turning it back on again eliminated this message on my phone.
So I bought the new iPhone online from the apple store app on my phone, with my apple card/ID .. but the phone was a gift for my son.. he is already using it.. and I have this message on my phone, in settings:
Ran iCloud backup, turned backup off then on. Boom!
thanks for the help!
Hi ML-me,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
We understand that you're seeing an alert on your son's new iPhone. It sounds like you're setting up the iPhone. Where do you see this? Be sure you have set up the iPhone using the guidance in Set up your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Feel free to post more details.
Regards.
Glad I could help!
Same issue. Bought a new iPhone for my wife. Annoying message as noted. Do the following. Click Get Started==>Backup to iCloud. Allow the process to start then go to Settings and turn off iCloud Backup. Viola!
Nope.. the message is still there :(
I had this exact same problem. It went away when I let it do the iCloud backup, then turned off iCloud backups.
I am seeing it on my iPhone..
Has this been resolved please? I bought my wife a new iPhone 11 using my apple account and I’m getting this message on my iPhone 12. I’d like to delete this prompt.
thanks
thanks. I’ll try apple support!
Thanks!!
Thanks; I’ll give it a try
