Rearranging Dock Icons is not working on MacBook Pro

I don't know when this started but I tried to move icons around on the dock on my MacBook Pro 15 2017 and I am not able to click hold drag them anymore. I am running Monterey 12.0.1.

I did see something about turning off Force Click and haptic feedback but that did not help.

Any other fixes?

Cheers

Amy

While chatting online with Apple to get help for this problem I kept looking online and found the answer.

To move the icons you have to click-hold-drag before the popup menu pops up.

This is pretty annoying since they changed the way this works. Why???

The chat person was of no help at all.

And all the "solutions" I found to this problem were not correct.

I hope you find this if you are having the same issue.

As far back as I can remember you have to click & drag off immendiately (before the contextual menu opens) to move them.

Not an issue really.

Much like you were deleting them off the Dock—however just get them up & off the Dock, and then move them to where you want. No need to remove completely...

According to Use the Dock on Mac - Apple Support

  • Rearrange items in the Dock: Drag an item to a new location.

But I have the same issue with 12.0.1. If I remember correctly it worked for me with no issues with Big Sur but didn't work with some prior macOS versions.

I don't know of a fix but I worked around the issue by removing the item from the dock and then added it back to the location that I want.
