Outlook account not authenticated

Hi community!

My iPhone 6 (with software updated to IOS 12.5.5, which it says is up to date) has stopped recognising my outlook account.

I deleted and re-installed the account (the advice in another thread) to no avail.

When I go to "Accounts" and click on my Outlook, it says "Account not authenticated" and only gives me the option to "Re-enter Password".

When I click on "Re-enter Password" it changes for an instant to another page (presumably the Outlook account password sign-in?) for less than a second and then returns to the Outlook account page.

I'm caught in a loop where I can either continue re-clicking "Re-enter Password" to no avail, or "Delete Account" (which I already tried).

I have now no access to my Outlook emails or Calendars on my iPhone, which is a HUGE issue as it's an account I use specifically for one of my clients!

I do not have this problem on my MacBook. Help!

Thanks a lot!

Max

Have you tried adding the Outlook account using Exchange option on your iPhone?

Hi SravanKrA,

Thanks for your messages!

I should add that iPhone 6 does not allow me to download the "Outlook APP" from the Apple store, as it says I need to have IOS 14 or more ... and Apple has abandoned iPhone 6 and prior users.

As to trying to add the Exchange account, that was my initial attempt (by accident, as I was thinking "Microsoft" - never understood the difference between Exchange and Outlook), but both attempts led to the same issue.

I've no idea why or what caused it. I've been using my outlook email and calendar without problem on both my MacBook and my iPhone 6 without any issue. This morning I woke up to a this unexplained reality.

I notice that the page that pops-up and shuts down in less than a second after I click on "re-enter password" is a page titled "login.live.com".

Any help, most grateful!

Cheers,

Max

I have the same problem too with an iPhone 6. It looks like between Apple and Microsoft they have finally severed compatibility with Outlook / Hotmail due to changes in security systems. If you want to add a Hotmail account to your iPhone you will need a newer phone that supports Microsoft's password-less authentication system. I got it to work with my iPhone XS but yeah my old iPhone 6 refuses to work now.

Hi Anthony,

Thanks for your reply. I eventually managed to resolve the issue on my iPhone 6 by repeatedly uninstalling and re-installing the Explorer account. It was something I had done a few times before to no avail, but at one point just worked. I've no idea why. I did not do anything different (to my knowledge). I simply kept attempting to add the account - in total frustration - until it suddenly worked. In fact, I'm not even sure if I managed to add it as an Exchange or Outlook account (I was trying each alternatively); I think it worked on Exchange. Best of luck!
