Hi, I'm using OS Big Sur on my 2016 MacBook Pro. For some reason my external hard drive shows up in FCPX but, as if it is empty. I tried opening another HD in which I had the same results. I went ahead and re-installed FCPX which didn't help. The following is what it looks like in FCPX when trying to import media. SG Silver is the external HD. Your help would be sincerely appreciated. Make sure that FCP has Full Disk Access in System Preferences->Security & Privacy->Privacy:

You are suppose to click the padlock if it is closed, type your password when requested, then press the + button and add Final Cut Pro to the list.
How is the drive connected and formatted? When you open the drive on the desktop what do the contents look like?
Ray, this works, but unless there is some reason not to, it would be preferable to just enable Full Disk Access.
Tom, I don't think the OP had Full Disk Access, or otherwise the options would not even appear under Files & Folders.
Click the + button; a file open window appears; select Final Cut Pro and click Open.
I don'r see FCPX in that menu but, I tried two other HD's and they are all being recognized in FCPX. Thanks for your help.
