Bonjour Multifunction no longer shows up for my printer after fresh install of Big Sur
I have a Brother multifunction printer/scanner that uses AirPrint. Installing the printer in High Sierra worked fine on 2 different MacBooks. Both were upgraded to Catalina. Again, no problem. Upgraded one of them to Big Sur (the other was too old so is stuck at Catalina). No problem.
I had to wipe and reinstall the Big Sur MacBook. Now, only the printer is recognized, not the scanner. It shows up as Bonjour under kind, not Bonjour Multifunction like before. I have another MacBook that came to me with Big Sur that has the same problem. I upgraded to Monterey and it still only sees Bonjour.
Both of those Big Sur/Monterey systems choose the "Brother MFC-9130CW" under "Use". AirPrint is no longer an option. However, after installation, it shows "Brother MFC-9130CW-AirPrint" as the "Kind."
I haven't loaded any Brother software/drivers on any of the MacBooks, so no conflict there.
Yes, I've "reset printing system" multiple times on both the affected systems. I've tried connecting to the 2.4ghz wireless the printer is connected to (the Catalina MacBook uses my 5ghz network and works just fine, but I did find one post referencing a 2.4/5ghz issue). I even wired everything up to remove wireless from the equation and still no change.
Preview/Image Capture apps don't show any scanners.
Any ideas? This seems really strange given its all AirPrint and should be compatible all around. If it stopped working when upgrading from Catalina to Big Sur it would be a different story, but clearly it works in Big Sur, just not from a fresh install.
