series 6 watch face not lighting up

Watch is in ‘theatre’ mode and ‘wake’ is turned off. Periodically when I tap the face, the screen is very dark. I have to wait until it shut off and tap again. This has just recently started to occur.

both phone and watch are up to date.

If the watch is in Theater Mode, the face is supposed to be darker. Turn Theater Mode off.
