Magic Mouse failure to connect after power outage

Hi folks, similar to a prior question, my Magic Mouse won’t connect after a power outage. I’ve tried the recommended method of connecting it to the lightning cable from the computer and it still won’t pair. This is a problem as I don’t know what other mouses may be compatible in order to past the computer login interface (not standard USB for 2021 mac). Advice welcome. Thanks!

iMac 24″, macOS 11.4

An update: I found a workaround.


On keyboard, type the first letter of the username you want to login with. Enter PW.


Home Screen will open. Magic Mouse should pair after a few minutes, or you can do the lightning cable plug-in as directed on the Apple support website. But in my experience the Magic Mouse won’t work on the Lock Screen so you have to find a way in without it.
