iTunes Store vs. Apple Music

Would be grateful if someone could offer a simple explanation of the difference between iTunesStore and Apple Music. I'm missing the basic function of each and having trouble seeing how each are used and when to use. For example, want to buy & download a comedy album by Laurie Kilmartin that just came out. Album name is "Corset". Do I purchase in one app then play in the other? or can I do both in either app? Is one free and the other subscription? Thanks in advance.

You can purchase via the iTunes Store. See: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211330

You can then listen by using the Music app on your phone. See the following from the above support article:

To find the music that you purchased, open the Apple Music app and tap the Library tab.

Apple Music (not the Music app on your phone or other device) is a subscription streaming service (but you also use the Music app on your phone or other device to listen). Apple Music - Apple
