Mac mini can't reinstall MacOS

Hello,

Mac mini i7 (12 cores) SSD 512Gb

MacOS 11

When I started the update to MacOS 12 I get a message: Unable to verify macOS.

After several times I had no choice to restart with Command R and initialize the internal SSD and reinstall macOS.

The system start install macOS Mojave but I get the same message.

Then I install macOS 12 on an external 256Gb SSD from my iMac and I can boot on it.

When I want to boot on it from the Mac mini it says that I am not allowed to boot from an external device. I am not sure about FileVault on this Mac, but I think it's off and it never ask me any password.

When (on the recovery mode) I select the wifi, it never accept the password (sure and test on different devices), I had to suppress the wifi password in my router to be accepted by the Mac mini = another issue during the recovery.

When I try to install MacOS from the recovery mode (after re-initialize the external SSD), I get the same message: Unable to verify macOS.

It tried to install Mojave and not the latest macOS probably because this Mac was build at that time.

I get the same message with the internal SSD as well.

When I start with D key pressed the diagnostic don't find any failure.

I can see why you're concerned.

Internet recovery should allow to install a version of macOS that's compatible with your hardware. If possible, install Big Sur which is quite stable. Once Big Sur is installed, boot into Recovery and run the Startup Security Utility. If I recall correctly, I selected "Medium" security. Also, make sure that you select the option that allows you to boot from an external drive.

Once Big Sur is working, I suggest create a bootable installer disk for Monterey. You'll also need a recent Time Machine backup of your user files, apps, and settings. Once Monterey is installed, you'll be prompted to use the Migration Assistant to complete the installation.

Hope this helps.

As stated earlier >>

There are reports appearing on the ASC Forums regarding failed installation of Monterey on older Qualifying Apple Computers. In most cases this is related to having a NON Apple Original internal drive ?

The EFI Boot ROM included in Monterey is verifying for Original Apple Drive and if not found , may Balk or fail to upgrade to Monterey.

Reports indicate the EFI BOOT ROM is Required to Flash the Computer and is a  requirement for a Successful Monterey Installation.

EFI Version 1715.40.15.0.0 dates from September 2021 prior to the release of Monterey.
