How do I disable split screen on IOS 15 on iPad?

I hate the new split screen feature and not being able to disable. I am constantly on the phone with my 85 year old mom trying to get her out of split screen. You have done a disservice not thinking of older people using iPads. Please make this feature able to disable. Very annoying
Agree woth arniefromcochrane as discriminating against less confident users in the case of an older woman I keep an eye on aged 88 . How to build up someone’s confidence learning to improve using an ipad and then destroy that confidence with not being able to switch off split screens . Unthinking, selfish, age discriminatory practice judging by the other comments too. Please reinstate the ‘ off ‘ switch to this .
I know that . Apple don’t seem to care to count the negative comments in the community but I have given feedback on the appropriate pathway. Just so short sighted of them considering the over 80’s that own an ipad then to also have the most money to spend online but hey ho …
Hello ~ I use the split screen often actually using it right now. I think it is rude to assume someone that is older cannot use an iPad. If you go back and review the terms of use you agreed to when you signed up for this forum you would understand that this is a technical forum to help each other learn about Apple products and help with problems. It is not a complaint center or a “place to blow off steam” Take a look here to learn more about the split screen :

I can use it fine but on reading other comments , the examples discussed are relatives and older people in the community and a lady also advised her autistic son has difficulties too . The comments are there to check.
Hello again ~ I am older and also disabled. My grandson has epilepsy and is autistic so I understand exactly what you are saying. I posted the link for you to be able to help the person in your care. I am actually trying to help you by providing the correct place for your feedback and information that may help with improving the use of the iPad in it’s current form. The fact is this may never change and complaining about it here will not do anything at all to get it changed.

Apple, you totally misinterpret the question being posed. People don't want to learn how to USE multitasking -- i.e. split screens -- but want to know how to GET RID OF THEM. This is a legitimate concern that I share. Please develop a solution to what is obviously a common difficulty, a new problem that you have inflicted upon users. And then explain the solution clearly, ideally with screenshots.
Completely agree with you Zachary to the point where I am now starting to research alternatives to iPad for when my current model needs replacement. Every time I use my pad to read a book I get the very annoying spit screen so Apple needs to sort this out before LOSING CUSTOMERS.

Please don't assume you speak for everyone. Apple added multitasking because large numbers of people have begging for it since the iPad was released.
Also, Apple isn't reading here for suggestions. The feedback link has been provided.
we still have no response to the request to disable this nuisance.
1) controls at the top center interfere with other controls they overlay
2) once a split screen is activated, it is often difficult to remove it. Sometimes the split won’t move. Sometimes it moves but will not close the unwanted window. Always it takes time to fix.

So why is the title of the forum”Apple Support Communities” ?
Read the Terms of Use you agreed to when you joined the forum. It is a forum HOSTED by Apple for users to help other users. Apple doesn't participate here. Apple doesn't read these posts for suggestions. And you would know this if you read the TOU when you signed up.

Come on people! Please understand that the kind folks on here who try to answer our questions are simply users just like you and me. They are trying to help us figure out stuff and how to use our devices. They are not Apple employees and have no more authority to change the way Apple designs the operating systems than I do. Frankly, I don't have any much reason to use the split screen myself and wish it could be turned off. The first time it happened to me, I had no idea what to do. The folks here gave me the information I needed to understand and how to get back to the single screen. I had seen the three dots at the top of the screen but did not know what they did. The people here helped me and I thank them for that.
While I absolutely agree with everything you said, I'm not sure why it was addressed to me.

Sorry, I meant that just to be a general comment to others not a specific reply to your posts. I think I hit the wrong button!
It happens! Just wanted to be sure that I hadn't said something that made you think I thought something else.
There's really no way to make a general reply. I think many of us reply to the OP to do that. But, of course, that can be confusing as well.

its the forum, it mixes up replies
In the almost 20 years I've been participating here, I've rarely seen that. Generally, it's a mistake or misunderstanding on the part of the user. Most of us have done it at one point or another.

Indeed. I have on several occasions replied to the wrong user, but never to my knowledge because the forum mixed it up. I just tapped Reply to the wrong user.

Of course, things get confusing when posts are deleted.....
