How do I disable split screen on IOS 15 on iPad?

I hate the new split screen feature and not being able to disable. I am constantly on the phone with my 85 year old mom trying to get her out of split screen. You have done a disservice not thinking of older people using iPads. Please make this feature able to disable. Very annoying
@arniefromcochrane Haha, I ended up on this thread searching how to disable it for my 76 year old mom who is losing her mind because the stupid split screen keeps happening while she's trying to write emails. It's driving her insane. She's so mad about her iPad now because every time iOS updates, something major like this changes and screws up her workflows. (don't get her started on Safari location bar going to the bottom of the screen)

This not being an issue for iPad - as the feature, which can be disabled, is only present in iOS for iPhone.
I have the same problem. I use the Apple Pencil to input text. The the fact that the search bar and multitasking buttons occupy the same space makes safari unusable for me. I tried to provide feedback, but this appears to be a dead link. Is there any other mechanism for me to communicate this suggestion to Apple? Thanks!
I absolutely hate this feature. The little split screen controller interferes with being able to select individual albums in Photos when choosing photos in apps like Signal. We should be able to move or delete the controller. Really annoying.
It is odd, because Apple knows 1. this method does not ensure that and 2. there are methods that do ensure that better and less intrusive. I mean, do you or Apple actually think there are bots trying spam their feedback to convince Apple to allow us to disable multitasking? If even if there are, why does it matter? They don’t respond to feedback anyway.
It doesn't matter what I think. I'm a user like you. I don't have any insight into what Apple thinks either.
And you're right. Apple does not respond to feedback. But they do read what people who legitimately take their time to write them.
This is not a new feature. What’s new is that Apple eliminated the ability to disable it. That used to be available, but was removed for some reason. Obviously a lot of us are less fatalistic and are hoping Apple restores it.
I think you don't understand my position. I'm HUGELY in favor of the new multitasking features on iPad Pro. I use them a lot. And I recently bought the 2021 iPad Pro M1. I have absolutely no interest in owning a dumber tablet.
That said, if you want a less capable tablet, you certainly have other options out there.
I am not against multitasking on iPad. I have a specific gripe about where the Control Panel is at the top center of the screen. When I want to share an image in the Signal app, for instance, the Split Screen control panel overlaps where I choose a specific album to select the photo I want to share. So when I try to select an album, I open the split screen feature instead. Over and over again - very annoying. I don't know if this layout situation is unique to the Signal app, but that is where it creates a problem for me, and I need to use Signal, and I need to share images there. So I want to be able to move the Control Panel or disable the multitasking feature, which I never have a need for, entirely. We can both be happy if they retain the multitasking functionality but let us move the Panel if desired.
Discussing it here doesn't help in any way shape or form. Whether you like it (I do) or don't (you don't) won't make any difference in a user to user only forum.
All you can do, is let Apple know your thoughts using the feedback link. If enough people complain to Apple about something, it has in the past made a difference. I would say however, given this thread was started on November 15, 2021, and is now at a whopping seven pages of comments, many from the same posters, this isn't a truly big issue to most people and won't likely garner much attention from Apple.
I think your position is abundantly clear oh defender of the multitasking nightmare. For a group of people this is an accessibility issue. We just come hoping someone has found a way to DISABLE the feature as was possible in previous iOS. Fantastic for everyone-like you-who love and utilize it. For our family, with a special needs child-this permanent and poorly placed feature causes accidental nonsense that is very frustrating. So, we will probably continue to check in to new posts hoping for a miracle, you do not need to tell each person they are fighting a losing battle. Just use your multitasking joyfully...while the rest of us hope for the kindness of a stranger to solve our dilemma. Yes, I get, we all get it once we've posted, there isn't a current solution. But since people are continuing to be frustrated by this -since November of 2021-it continues to be a problem. And many of us, I think, have posted to the feedback link so we have done our due diligence. Now we wait....and hope for common sense to prevail at Apple.

Well, no need to ask if anyone knows how to disable something not one person here has the ability to disable. Question asked. Answer given. The only way to disable it would be to own iPadOS and make a change inside iPadOS. Again, not one person here owns iPadOS. Only Apple owns iPadOS, so not one person here can do anything about this.
Hello ~ I think we have gone over this in great detail and tried to explain. I myself am disabled and without this Multitasking feature I would have a much harder time. No one here is being critical of you or your needs only trying to explain the way things are. Each of us volunteer our time to help out here each day. We hear what you are saying but we can only pass along the facts. At this present time it cannot be disabled and voicing your displeasure here will not change anything.

I’m glad this feature helps you with your disability, but as you’ve read, it interferes with other peoples’. Fortunately, there is a simple solution that gives everyone what they want. If apple wishes to be an inclusive and responsive company, they’ll listen to their customers, both on the feedback forms and in discussions like this (it would be very poor business to overlook the value of the comments left in these message boards).

I also plan to buy a different tablet—Apple does not change things to help everybody—-just the tech nerds. Goodbye!!
That's fine. As users on a user to user only forum, it really matters little to us what tablet you think best meets your needs. And you should always purchase what makes the most sense for you personally.
