Playing Spotify playlist on Apple Watch

Hello, I bought an Apple Watch series 3 mainly to go out for a phone without my phone and still listen to my downloaded spotify music. I’ve ran into an issue where after selecting “downloading to my Apple Watch” spotify feature for a playlist and checking my watch, my downloads section shows the playlist trying to download but stuck on the first song being dowloaded. I initially researched a bit online and saw that I may need the cellular version of the Watch to do this regardless?
