My AirTag wont connect to my iPhone

My AirTag wont connect to my phone, it keeps popping up with a message saying cannot set up this AirTag your Apple ID cannot add another AirTag until one or more have been removed.

I don’t have another AirTag, I have an iPhone, iPad, AirPods and an Apple Watch. Why wont my AirTag connect?

Hello daniellerich95x,

We understand that you are attempting to pair an AirTag and have encountered problems with that process. We're happy to offer advice that may help!

To begin, are you completing the steps outlined at Add an AirTag in Find My on iPhone for this? If not, give those a try and see if the AirTag will pair.

If not, you may try using How to reset your AirTag to reset the AirTag and then attempt to pair once more. If still not pairing, use the link at the bottom of that page to contact our support to investigate further.

Cheers!

I had this same issue and I just got off with apple support. We ended up unpairing my AirPods, force closing find my and settings, then restarted my phone. When I turned it back on it paired without issue. I was then able to repair AirPods without issue. Hope this helps. Apple support said they have seen issues when AirPods are already paired with the phone.

(I have iPhone XS Max with iOS 15.1)

My problem was my AirTag would not connect. It gave me the error that stated I needed to delete AirTags before I could add this one but I’ve never had an AirTag before. The solution was to unpair the airpods, force close find me app and settings app, then restart my phone. Just unpairing the AirPods without restarting did not work.

Me too. Every time I talk to apple support they go through the same thing. Verifying I don’t have other items in Find My, having me reset the tag again, shutting blue tooth off and turning back on, removing the AirPods and then trying to pair tag, completely resetting my phone. Nothing works.

I had the same issue with the air tag not connecting to my phone and I tried everything that everyone is talking about.

it has been a week and still nothing and then I finally got it to connect to my phone. Here are the steps I did

1) you have to delete all Bluetooth connection and if you have a watch, you will have to unpair it in the watch app ( once you delete the watch, you will be able to restore it when you pair later)

2) turn off the Bluetooth

3) go into setting and click on your name, that will take you to your Apple ID, click on find my and turn it off

4) reboot your phone. Once the phone has rebooted, turn on your Bluetooth and find my phone

5) go to find my app and pair your air tag

After trying for a week and nothing, after following the steps above, it finally work! 😃

I followed the instructions provided by Apple support (see above), basically removing my Airpods from the connected devices. this didn't help, but when i paired again my Airpods, the miracle: I could then pair my Airtags... seems it's a bit random how it works all that, but do several tries and you will be successful :)
