How do I connect a USB drive to my iMac?

Hi there,

Ignoring the 'plug it into your USB socket' previous comments(!) I assume you're on a newer (M1) iMac? If so, as the new machines don't have USB ports any more, you need to get an 'Apple USB-C Digital AV Multi-port adaptor' - you can then attach any USB cable device (and also an HDMI cable if necessary). Unfortunately they're not cheap!
