FCP X 10.6.1 is giving me the spinning wheel and blocks!

Is anyone having the same issue? HELP!

For reference:

-I am working on a with PRORES 4K every time I try to color grade a video FCPX freezes and becomes irresponsible. While browsing videos it was also having issues, but at least at could work.

It sometimes unfreezes if I force quit the finder...

-Running on a M1 iMac with 16G RAM

-External Drive LacieBig Dock 8T

Thanks for any help, this is rather frustrating!!!

Always, when the application crashes, you need to delete its preferences.

To delete preferences, hold down command and option while starting FCP X and click Delete Preferences.

The application will start in a default state, and open an "Untitled" library. Reopen the library you were working on, set the preferences the way you like them, and try again.

Also, just in case there is a problem with the drive, you could try doing a library and a new project in the internal drive, to see if it suffers from the same problem or not.

Does FCP have Full Disk Access in System Preferences->Security & Privacy->Privacy?

I am guessing that it does, but check just in case.

Maybe the issue has to do with the drive. How full is it? This is a rotating HD, right?

Any other drives connected?

Dear all thanks for the help.

As I suspected form before... it was not a hardware issue but more a FCPX.

First of all when I imported the video files I asked FCPX to automatically produce proxy files 1/2 size. For some reason the program did a mess. So several versions were scattered in the library. I did use the delete generated clip files from the software, nevertheless the mess of proxy files was so big that some were not "found."

So after trying everything all that kind of work was to manually erase ALL PROXY and OPTIMAZED media from the library. Then, out with preferences and unchecked the background rendering... is working, not ideal, not 100% and still give the volley-ball every time one goes fast...

I am incline to think that this is also some kind of condition created by the PRORES coming from the ZCam E2 M4. This one is another completely different conversation.

So that is it.

The Avast antivirus software needs to be completely uninstalled.

The Google keystone daemons always cause problems because they seem to run continuously grabbing resources needed by other applications. Not sure if Google Drive is using it or if you have Chrome installed. The keystone items and Chrome should be removed.

The TB3 connection will not help with the LaCie spinning drive.

The third party plugins probably need to be updated or reinstalled FxFactory, MotionVXF, and Neat, which is always really slow and bogs down whatever it touches unless it’s rendered.

That’s all I see.

I have already done this (Delete preferences)... I will try it again with the untitled library, add-on. The problem is that my project material is big: around 1T of PRORES 422, but this is normal when working with 4K... and then, the app is crashing while working with proxies or original.

The only special thing that I can see is that at the beginning I wanted to work with ProRes RAW. So I have three or four clips of RAW footage mixed with the ProRes. THAT IS THE ONLY UNUSUAL thing in this project that I can tell. That, and the fact that it crashes all the time.

I will render the ProRes-RAW into normal 422 videos and duplicate the time-line. After this I am running out of ideas.

Hi,

-FCPX has full access in security settings.

-The disk is new... just running FCPX library on Thunderbolt 3... got it for this project...

-No more drivers connected.

This is incredibly annoying... and sort of terrifying! This configuration of iMac and FCPX was supposed to do this as a super easy task... so I wonder what else should be going wrong... it might the FCPX glitchy ethos...

I ran the BlackMagic speed test:

Local drive_ W2846MB/s R856MB/s

External driven_ W210MB R209MB/s

I have installed the Monterrey and uninstalled AVAST.

I got the spinning wheel as I try to color grade every single time. Strangely one of the videos stop responding to the color sliders while moving... then when a try to do other clip it freezes.

I do not have any plug-ing running.

This is confronting... I have a deadline to meet and product to finalise... it is just not working and I wonder why.

Thanks for the feedback.
