Trackpad looking for non-existent bluetooth trackpad

Hello,

I recently got a used MacBook Air (Early 2015). I'd like to enable tap-to-click on the built-in trackpad. But when I select trackpad from system preferences, it seems it is looking for an external/bluetooth trackpad which I don't have and as such, the system cannot find it.

I examined the bluetooth settings but no device is listed anywhere. Yet an external/bluetooth trackpad is searched for.

I can scroll up and down, or, move the pointer using the built-in trackpad but I cannot tap-to-click. Any suggestion as to how to remedy this?

Thank you for your help and feedback
