iMovie and external hard drive

Copied a iMovie onto external drive but is expat formatted. I then deleted the movie on my mac hard drive to free up space. I emptied trash also. Now I've tried to re-open the iMovie video using the hard drive and obviously it isn't working. The file can't even be highlighted. Any solutions? Thanks

iMovie exports 0kb file Hi all, So I've made a movie in iMovie, but every time I try to export (share) it to my desktop/documents, the pop-up shows that it's not compatible with Quicktime Player. I've tried to open it with VLC as well, but didn't work as well. It also shows that it's an empty file (0kb). Does anyone know how to fix this? I already tried to make a new project by copying all the footage and audio and pasting it into a new project. Same thing happend unfortunately. I also tried changing the resolution to a lower one, but that didn't do anything either. The file is only 2gb and I have plenty of storage left on my macbook.

Problems with different external drives in Imovie I try to use a external drive for Imovie, but they are not usable in Imovie, the are both MAC OS Extended formatted but this doesn't solve the problem, I can't even import movies from the external drive in iMovie, iMovie se the drives but doesn't show content. i have reset already the NVRAM, I reinstalled iMovie. The drives work perfectly in all other programs. Somebody an solution? Thanks

Old iMove HD files won't import to imovie or FCP on BigSur Hi all, Desperate for help please, I have some old iMovie HD projects on an external drive that I want to import and edit, but iMovie and FCPX don't recognise the, nor does quicktime. I can see them in the folder when I navigate to it, but they are faded out. Get Info shows them as iMovie projects, so I thought they would import okay :0/ I have downloaded a lot of video converters, and none of them work either, anyone know how I can import them, other than having to do it all again from DV tape, or roll back to my original OS and iMovie HD? iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) running BigSur 11.6.8 (20G715) Thanks in advance!

The Ex Fat drive format is compatible with Mac and Windows. I can't explain why your exported iMovie movie won't open. Possibly the movie may have gotten corrupted somehow. Or perhaps the drive is corrupted. Do other videos open on the drive?

Copy the movie back to your Mac or to another external drive and see if it works there. If it works, then the movie file is not corrupted. If it doesn't work, then it probably is corrupted.
