migration assistant not seeing my other mac
My new Mac and old Mac are both connected to my network but the migration assistant doesn't see them. Why? What can I do to correct this?

I think this is what is giving me the biggest problem. The new Mac has a new password but my Apple ID has a different one. It looks like when I go to the migration assistant is logs me out of my Apple ID.
Please follow the directions in Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant for the fastest, easiest and most reliable method of migration. Your method frequently fails this is why I recommend follow the process outlined in the link.
Passwords being different is fine; logging in is what's important. Neither machine cares what the other's PW is.
That makes sense but as far as I can tell I am logged into my Apple Account on both machines. Regardless, the migration assistant on either machine does not see the other.
Then your problem is not necessarily MA per se, therefore hopefully someone with greater experience in transferring will chime in.
