software update

I'm trying to do a software update for my MacBook Pro but the app store won't give me an option to update. Is my MacBook too old?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.12

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and depending on which MacBook Pro model you have, click on High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur, or Monterey. They're full-version upgrades and won't appear in the Updates list.
