Exchange password required

I have a (trade union) account that is set with MFA that I have to renew periodically. On my iPad, phone, Windows PC etc I get a prompt to re-enter the password, and after I have done this I am invited to request a code sent by text to my phone, and this works fine on all devices (there may be other options for the MFA).

On the MacBook I get an 'Exchange password required' notification. However, this just sends me to the 'Internet Accounts' settings page, with the list of my email accounts at left and options for each account: the Exchange account does not let me enter the password or request the MFA text. The only way I have found to re-establish contact with the account is to remove it and add it again - most frustrating.

Can anybody help?

Hi Luko_h,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having an issue with Multi-Factor Authentication on your MacBook. We're happy to provide some information to get you in the right direction to assist.

We'd recommend using an app specific password to ensure the details stay updated in the Mail app: Using app-specific passwords

Additionally, if you use Keychain double check for any conflicting or old password information. Manage passwords using keychains on Mac

Best!
