DISABLE "hide my email" feature from Safari (not deactivate an email id)

How do I stop/disable the hide my email in safari? Every time I am on an email int box on a page, I get this 'hide my email' option. I know how it works and I know how to delete a disposable address, that is not my question. My question is how to I stop it. When I am on an email input field on a webpage, I have a password manager and I have my MacBook Pro Touch Bar that have my emails store that I can input with a click. I do NOT want to hide my emails, I want use my actual emails, at all times. Therefor how do I banish this offer to hide my email from popping up every time and interfering with my touchbar and password manager.

I have seen this question asked over and over in various forums and the answer is always 'you can delete or deactivate an email by going to settings/iCloud/hide my email and then selecting the email address and turn off forwarding or deactivating it.... That is not the question I or countless other people are asking. I am asking how do I stop this irritating feature altogether. I do not want to hide my email on any site, ever.

Select "Safari / Preferences / Autofill" and uncheck the box for autofill "Using information from my contacts". The "Hide my email" feature is on the same menu as email addresses in your contacts, and if you disable autofilling from your contacts, you'll disable "Hide my email" too.

If you're using a third party password manager like 1Password, you'll probably want to disable all Safari's built-in autofill options anyway, because 1Password (or whatever else you're using) will do all that for you, and it's confusing to have two password managers competing over which one gets to autofill.

"how do I banish this offer to hide my email from popping up every time and interfering with my touchbar and password manager."

How is it "interfering" exactly?

For me, it behaves as a button that allows the option to use it, but does not force its use in anyway. Likewise, it seems to do a good job of distinguishing between the email field being one for signing in, versus one for setting up a new account. Can't say it has been 100% correct, but can't recall the option button coming up for any sites that where I am making a repeat visit and signing in with already established credentials.

To my knowledge, there is not a provision in Safari itself to manage this feature exclusive to the browser. The only opportunity to interact with the Hide My Mail feature, that I am aware of, is in your Apple ID under iCloud. Even then, there is not a tick-box allowing it to be turned off.

It’s interfering because in the past when When I tab/click into a email input field, my address pops up on my Touch Bar.. one touch and I’m done. But now the box pops up and my Touch Bar is blank. So I have to type in my complete email address. I know I can create a keyboard short. But why? Why should the OS decide that by default everyone will always want to hide their email address with no option to do otherwise?

No wisdom to impart regarding the Touch Bar, as I have never experienced one. However, consider that there are numerous Mac users with setups that do not include one. As such, it is a fair bet that whichever password manager you are using is not solely dependent upon a Touch Bar, in order to function.

You didn't mention which password manager you are using. If it is a 3rd party app then I would be sure and report the bug to them. How they interact with the new Hide My Password functionality likely needs some work. If however, you are using Safari's built in password manager, I would use the feedback tool. https://www.apple.com/feedback/safari.html

I know it is not the answer you are seeking, but until a solution is available, figure out how to interact with the password manager without the Touch Bar to do so. There has to be a way as those of us without one do so daily, without issue.

Yes if it was a Touch Bar/password manager combo that I was using that would be a setup fairly unique to me... But I am talking about them both not working separately. So before I got my MacBook Pro, I used a password manager which would auto fill my emails (and of course passwords) in relevant input fields. After I got my MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, I disabled the password manager from filling in email input fields, because they my email address would show up as a suggestion on my Touch Bar and I just tapped the Touch Bar and my address was filled in.

Now with the 'Hide My Password" feature, my Touch Bar does not prompt me with my email. So now I have to type in my complete email always. Again my password manager is out of the picture. So it's an issue that must affect many people, in fact anyone who brought a MacBook in the last 3 years.

I will submit feedback topple using the link in your comment. Thanks.

The e-mail address and password for each site are stored in the Keychain. They can also be accessed in the Safari Preferences via "AutoFill" and "User names and passwords." It always worked very well with or without Touch Bar and without any third-party software. With the introduction of the "Hide my email" feature, AutoFill stopped working, and we now have to type in our e-mail addresses manually each time. It is extremely annoying.

I am having the same problem and I’m so irritated with the lack of a helpful response. Why is this issue so difficult to comprehend? I have wasted far too much time searching for a seemingly nonexistent solution to this simple problem. All we want is the ability to either choose which option to use (our actual email or hide my email) or to completely disable the hide my email function when using one touch contact auto fill. As it is, we are trapped in the hide my email “service” and the auto fill function is no longer a useful tool.

Again, I have zero Touch Bar experience, so excuse my ignorance. If the password manager is disabled, then where does the email address (and presumably follow on password) come from? In order to be automatically filled in for you, it must be stored and retrieved from somewhere. If not a 3rd party password manager then Safari's own keychain.

My presumption is that all of your email & password combinations are stored in a repository (3rd party or keychain) somewhere, and it should not depend solely upon Touch Bar integration to retrieve that information. Again presumption on my part, but I imagine that you changed settings along the way to make the Touch Bar option convenient, and grew accustomed to that work flow. Now that it is broken, I was suggesting that there should be (key words) provision for returning the functionality to that which would be in place for a user & system that does not have a Touch Bar.

The Touch Bar workflow you describe could never work for a Mac mini owner, an iMac owner, or anyone purchasing new MacBooks without a Touch Bar. Even though your machine has one, it would seem plausible that there is a way to break out of that workflow and implement one that does not depend on the Touch Bar. I realize that it may not be as convenient as what you had, but far better than having to manually type it all in.

Hopefully when enough people complain Apple will give us the option to disable this very annoying button. I’ve tried everything I can think of, I made sure there are no emails in the settings for it, and turned off the 1Password safari extension. In the end I did a factory reset and erased all data. This helped a little, as long as I don’t enable the 1Password extension I mostly don’t see the button !
