There is a ¼ inch (3-4 mm) dark shadow on the left, right and bottom edge of the display. It contrasts most noticeably on a white background like this website, or a white keynote / canvas in Photoshop. It is visible on all levels of screen brightness. What is this? I've owned 20 or more Mac laptops, and I've never seen this on the others. Help appreciated.

I believe your screen features many more local zones of backlighting than any previous displays. You sound like you have had a backlight neighborhood blackout.
Got a recent backup? they may want to just exchange your Mac, especially if under 14 days old.
make an appointment for a hardware/display problem at the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple-owned store, free, in warranty or out.
Those guys put their hands on these computers all day every day, and they have a sense of what is right and what is "not right".

Yes, people say that it's ok for mini-led displays, iPad pro, XDR apple monitors... My friend hasn't seen those shadows for 1.5 months with his new mac before discussing that.
I have the same with my new OLED tv.
I can say just enjoy it because it's the best display ever.
Ya, I've had it 4 days and bought Apple Care. Considering what I paid, I'm going to go to the Apple Store to have them look at it. Another thing, the display in general is not that bright, seems to fluctuate between color modes at random... it's just odd. Thanks
Hi, have the same shadows around my display. I already thought nobody saw that except me;) I now have the fourth MacBook Pro 14. Always with the same problem. Can anyone help. Is that a serial problem?
