4th gen apple tv

we had first generation Apple TV and it has a plug-in for our stereo system we just purchased the fourth generation Apple TV and it doesn’t have the plug-in for our stereo, how do we get our stereo speakers to work

It is thought that modern audio receivers in home theater setups have HDMI inputs.

Apple TV →[HDMI]→ AV receiver →[HDMI]→ TV

or: Apple TV →[HDMI]→ TV →[HDMI]→ audio system

If your audio system doesn’t have HDMI inputs, then you should be able to pass the audio through the TV, and connect the TV to your audio system via optical (or coax). This may require a passthrough setting on your TV, and setting the Audio Format to Dolby Digital 5.1 or Stereo on Apple TV.

Apple TV →[HDMI]→ TV →[optical]→ audio system

If the above isn’t convenient for your setup, then you may want to look at HDMI Audio Extractors.

Apple TV →[HDMI]→ HDMI Audio Extractor →[HDMI]→ TV
