iMovie video freezing over Apple TV

I have made several iMovies that we watch over Apple TV. The latest one has a glitch.

There are two segments of video (shot with an iPhone) interpreted with photographs. The iMovie plays perfectly when watching it on my Mac.

However, when we watch the iMovie over Apple TV, the first video segment plays fine, but the second segment freezes the iMovie PICTURE at the end of the video when it transitions to the next photograph. The AUDIO continues playing fine - it is only the picture that freezes.

I tried deleting the problematic iPhone video segment in the iMovie, then adding it back in. The same thing happened.

To add to the puzzle, I copied the iMovie and put it on my brother-in-laws Mac computer, then tried to watch the iMovie over their Apple TV. The same thing happened! At the end of the iPhone video segment, the iMovie picture froze, but the audio continued playing.

Help, please.

I don't know why the iMovie video freezes in Apple TV.

You might try re-encoding the movie. Convert the video to H.264, Mp4/AAC with the freedownload, Handbrake. Do that even if the codec already is indicated to be Mp4/AAC. Re-rendering often cures the issue.

You can get Handbrake here:

https://handbrake.fr/

A simple way to do it is to open Handbrake and do a File/Open Source. Navigate to your video and choose it as the source from the resulting screen. Then do File/Start Encoding. Wait a couple of minutes for the conversion to complete. Then save and import the converted clip into iMovie. Try playing it on Apple TV and see if the freeze problem is resolved.

Rich, apologies for the delay in responding. I have some trouble getting back to my community discussions, which seems to be an Apple ID issue.

In any event, re-encoding the movie seems to have solved the issue. The only difference is that I wound up doing it using QuickTime (instead of Handbrake) because Quicktime is an Apple app.

I exported the clip from the Photos app where it was residing, into the Movies folder, then imported from the Movies folder into iMovie media. I substituted the new clip for the one that was hanging up. It now has played correctly several times, so I think it is fixed.

In any event, you steered me in the right direction. Thanks very much! Very helpful.
