1st gen iPad stuck on boot loop

Hi Alright so I’ve recently found my very first iPad in one of my drawers. It’s not just my very first iPad but it is actually the first ever iPad model. It’s the 1st gen iPad with 16gb storage and that bulky and kinda round back

anyways. After years of not using it, I tried to turn it on again and it actually immediately started showing the old apple logo but after about 10 seconds it all got black again, just for it to flash the logo again and so on and on..

I am stuck on that cycle and have no idea what to do. I already tried rebooting it with iTunes on my macbook but the problem is that the second I unplug the wall charger, my iPad completely dies and the macbook just doesn’t seem to charge strong enough to turn the iPad on on it’s own. So that’s not really an option. Ive tried rebooting it with the sleep and home button but after a while it just shows me the connect with iTunes pop up. Which, in this case doesn’t help because as soon as I plug it off it dies-

I really don’t wanna lose this iPad because it has huge value to me so if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this I would be more than just grateful!

Hey there, Melaxo_!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you are having a couple of problems with your original iPad. The first being that it won't boot up all the way, and the second being it will immediately shut off when not connected to a power source. We are happy to help!

Based on what you've described, it sounds as though there may be a problem with the battery of the iPad. According to the information in the Apple Support article Obtaining service for your Apple product after an expired warranty - Apple Support, your iPad model is considered obsolete and is not eligible for repair.

That said, there are steps you can follow to attempt to regain access to the device while it is connected to power. And, you are actually on the right path for this using your MacBook. The full process is detailed under the "If your iPad turns on but gets stuck during startup" section of If your iPad won't turn on or is frozen - Apple Support. You may need to keep your MacBook plugged into power while the iPad is connected, as its battery may not be able to supply enough power for both devices at the same time.

Best!
