Exporting Slideshows - Why no Sound?

If you've created a great slideshow with nice music and/or comments to go along with it in Photos, why is it so difficult to do a simple thing, like export that so that you can share it with people?

What's an *.m4v file, pray tell?

No matter what program I use (Quick Time, VLC), the audio has obviously not been exported along with the Jpegs. This kind of thing makes me wonder about using Apple products. People in the forums say they have no problem with sound in their slideshows if they use Apple Music.

I worry about Apple software, especially Apple Music, and how we are being coerced, through inconvenience, to sign up for it, and pay for it, each and every month until the day we die, just to make things work, even if that means giving up or having to re-purchase music that we already own, or replace it with some kind of thing somebody else thinks we should have.

The lack of choice, the absence of options and the unrelenting pressure to sign up for things we don't necessarily want or need is extremely tiresome, time consuming and disrespectful.

Baby Boomers are not luddites. I speak for us all when I ask that there be more consideration given to the kinds of things that people really want to do. Wasn't that the vision of Steve Jobs? "To provide powerful tools that are easy to use" ,My experience with Apple products lately, has not been that.

Thank you.

Hi

What is the source of your music? If it is an apple music subscription, then songs cannot be exported due to DRM protection. Similarly if it is a song purchased from apple music some years ago when purchased songs were still protected - it can't be used.

You can use any song ripped from a CD or purchased since DRM was no longer applied.

By the way - apple are not here, we are mainly just users like you. If you want to give feedback to apple, the correct location is:

An MPEG-4 video file format from Apple that supports digital rights management (DRM).Copy-protected video content from Apple's iTunes store uses M4V, and non-Apple media players may support the format. M4V files are the copy-protected equivalent of the MP4 format, but copy protection is optional.

So evidently you music does have some DRM associated with it.

Thanks, everyone. Big shout out to Old Toad for defining DRM as "digital rights management". The slide show that I created (because of this enticing option being added to Photos) contained some Photos background music, some imported audio from music that I own and audio associated with a video clip that was in the slide show. I guess the background music options in Photos are DRM and that means that none of the rest of it will export either? Gee, I sure wish I had known that before I went to all that work because that background music was really underwhelming and I easily could have found something better. I just don't see the point of these new Apple features, such as, making slideshows in Photos, if you can't share them with other people - at least not without considerable hassle.

So, I'm disenchanted with Apple products lately; extremely disappointed, after spending so much money on Apple stuff; that I have to spend so much time struggling to do things that were easy to do 10 years ago. This is not limited to Photos. I've had even bigger problems with Apple Music. Never had any trouble with my MacBook Pro at all ever!

And yes, you are right - thanks for the link to Apple so I can voice my opinion to them directly and thanks for those of you who post truly useful suggestions to fix problems. I find they are usually much better than what they have on the Apple help site.

Cheers!

I tested just now, OT; anreven, when I select a song from my music library, that I played myself on my guitar, recorded and mixed with GarageBand, the slideshow will be exported as .m4v, but I can hear the soundtrack in the exported video, when I play it with TV. I am not sure, if it making a difference, that I have subscribed to Apple One + .
