AirPods Pro Automatic Device Switching not working

I have a 2020 MacBook Pro M1 running the latest version of macOS Monterey and an iPhone 12 Pro Max on the latest iOS version and AirPods Pro firmware version is 3A283. My apple id is two-factor authenticated. All the devices show the AirPods Pro as a Bluetooth headset. But cannot switch between the devices. I have reset the AirPods multiple times. I want to switch between iPhone and Mac but I basically have to turn off bluetooth and manually connect and/or reset it to switch between a MacBook and my iPhone.


I have the second gen AirPods which switch perfectly fine but the AirPods Pro just won't work. Please help!

It sounds like your AirPods Pro aren't automatically switching to your Mac, but your other AirPods (2nd generation) do. We're glad you've joined us in Apple Support Communities. Let's see if this helps.


It seems like you've had the chance to review Switch your AirPods to another device, but let's double-check the information in that link once more. It has great information about the requirements of automatic switching.


If the issue remains, then let's make sure that your AirPods Pro has automatic switching enabled on your Mac. On your Mac, with the AirPods Pro already connected, go to System Preferences > Bluetooth > Click the Options button next to the name of the AirPods > Connect to This Mac > and choose Automatically. We think this is a good step to take because it could be that your AirPods (2nd generation) have this feature enabled, but your AirPods Pro don't currently.


If you continue to experience issues after following the steps and suggestions above, please let us know what type of media this is happening with (music, tv shows, web conferencing, etc.)
