Apple is asking me for a second six digit passcode that I never put in

I don’t know how to recover the second six digit passcode for my iPhone 12s I never put one in the beginning so there’s no way I can know what it was if I reset it it says that it will delete all my data I read the article about more information and I am still confused.

The Iphone hadn't done a backup in months and I have a ton of critical data on the phone for my job that could potentially cost me my job if I can't get it back. Talked to apple support and the only option they can offer is wiping and starting from scratch. Seems to me if the update caused my passcode to change there should be more support from apple to rectify the issue. If I don't put this passcode in, I get a message in itunes that says the phone can't be backed up. Just started this w/ 16.1. I've never had to do this before. All software is up to date. Windows 10 home & iphone 13 are what I'm using. I called Apple and the guy said this was normal but not new with the software update (although my phone didn't start this until I updated it). itunes software is also the most recent version (12.12.16.1). So, is there some way around this? Thanks.

Need to unlock iPhone when syncing with Mac Now days, I have to unlock my iPhone by entering my passcode every time I connect a lightning cable and sync it with my Mac … and I could swear that I didn't used to have to do that. Has something changed, or am I misremembering? Anyone know how to get the iPhone and Mac to trust one another permanently?

If you see an option to reset encrypted data, several people have posted that they did that and lost little to no data.
