How can I restore my emails after I accidentally deleted my archived emails?

If you have a Time Machine backup, you can restore this folder:

~/Library/Mail/

This is the Library/Mail/ folder in your user account. For instance if your username is gymgirl13, the folder to restore is

/gymgirl13/Library/Mail/

This restores all your emails, mailboxes, and mail folders from that backup.

Since macOS Catalina, Time Machine no longer backs up your email messages from the Apple Mail app.

It does back up the username/Library/Mail folder and by restoring this entire folder, all emails that were in place at the time of that backup get restored.

Individual email messages or email folders or mailboxes cannot be restored from within the Mail app with Time Machine. That used to work but does not work anymore. Instead one has to restore entire folders or accounts in the above directory. That username/Library/Mail folder is backed up by Time Machine, I can see it and all its contents in my Time Machine backup and have restored those folders with Time Machine, and have also migrated them from a Time Machine backup to a new computer, with all emails being restored.

Yes, thank you. I'm aware of this and was only referring to within Time Machine's interface. I should have clarified that ... sorry.

Note that you did not include some additional steps in locating the proper mail folder that may prove helpful to the OP ... and those are:

  • In Catalina+, the Mail folder that you would want to get to is within the Macintosh HD - Data folder.
  • The Library folder is by default hidden. It can be revealed by using the <cmd><shift><.> key combination.
  • Once you locate the proper backed up mail folder, you can import the mailboxes therein to the Mail app. This should create an "import" folder within the app for the OP to choose from.
