why won't my outlook email authenticate on my iphone?

I have had my outlook email tied to my phone for years and suddenly it disconnected and asked me to re-input the password. when I go to re-enter the password the outlook page opens and immediately closes again and won't let me actually put in my password. My email continues to say account not authenticated.

How can I reconnect my email and regain access to the email and connected reminders, contacts etc?

iPhone 6, iOS 12

We understand you're trying to add your Outlook password but you're running into an error. 


To confirm, did you use these steps to add your account? Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Are you able to access your Outlook account via webmail without any issue?

Try restarting your iPhone and then attempting to add the password again.

We understand only your Outlook account is having this issue when adding the password.


Using the latest iOS software can help make sure the iOS is working as expected. This Apple Support page has the steps to install pending updates: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support


If the issue remains, are you adding your account via Settings > Mail, or something else?

If your iOS is updated, have you been able to contact Outlook support to see if there is an outage causing this issue?

I can add the email manually under other email, but when I specifically use the outlook button when adding an account to mail, I am unable to authenticate my account (it will not let me put in my password to authenticate because the page won't load). I want to use the outlook section so I can also access the reminders and contacts saved, not just the email.


I can also sign into my email through the outlook app and on safari with no issues. I have also tried restarting multiple times with no success.

Yes I am trying to set up the email via settings> mail and that is the only place where this connectivity issue arises. I have recently updated my ios on my iphone and that still hasn't fixed the problem. There is also not an outlook outage from when I checked with them last. I am unsure what else to do to fix this email issue as this connectivity issue has persisted for almost a month.
