Safari seems to think I'm in the USA but I'm in the UK

On Black Friday, I signed into amazon.co.uk on my MacBook Pro (12.0.1) to buy something and Amazon sent me a text saying there was a new sign-in from the USA. I bought an Office 365 subscription and opened the emailed link (in Outlook which opened in Safari) to redeem it but Microsoft said I was trying to redeem it in a different country from the purchase. I used Chrome and it worked the first time.

If I google "where am I" and click on the same link, Safari shows me as USA, Chrome correctly shows me as the UK. The USA address shows as King Street & 4th Street, King Street, San Francisco, CA 94017, United States of America.

I have iCloud+ Private Relay on and set to country and timezone but I'm not sure if this is causing the issue.

Hello Johnnyboy8,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

If we understand your post correctly, Safari thinks that you're currently in the USA but you're actually in the UK. We'd like to help!

Let's check your Mac settings and ensure that the region is set to the UK.

  1. Click on the Apple at the top left of your Mac screen.
  2. Open System Preferences.
  3. Click Language & Region.
  4. Click + in the bottom left corner to add a new language, choose which you'd like as your primary.
  5. Click Region near the upper right corner of the window to change it.

Are you using a VPN when you notice that Safari is saying you're in the USA and not the UK?

Change VPN settings in Network preferences on Mac

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Take care!

Thanks for replying. My regional settings are correct and there's no settings for individual apps turned on and the VPN is showing as not connected. It's odd that both Chrome and Safari show different countries. If the VPN was set, it should show both countries as the same one as it affects all connections.

My iPhone 13 Pro Max shows the exact address in Safari.
