can i buy a used i phone in usa with verizon and take to canada and use on my plan in canada?

I didn't realize that Verizon was a carrier in Canada? You would not be able to use a phone locked to Verizon with a Canadian network. Are you sure this is what you want to do. If you purchase a phone in the US, you would want an unlocked phone if you want to use a Canadian carrier.
It was a used Verizon phone but is older so has been unlocked and is an iPhone. We switched SIM cards and wanted to make sure it would not be locked out in Canada with their plan in Canada. Seems it will not be.
If the iPhone is already unlocked, then you should be alright. The title of your post said that it was locked. You better be sure.
