Prohibitory symbol when i try to change volume on macbook air

When I try to change the volume on my Mac, it won't let me change it and gives me a prohibitory symbol. (I have inserted a screenshot here) I have not updated to MacOS Monterey yet, and I am still on Big Sur, could that be the problem?

I have found the solution, just switch the output to your macbook's speakers.

Edit: the answer was right in front of me the whole time and I didn't know, thank you!
