Application error: a client-side exception has occurred

Hey gyus,

I have a problem with some websites on Safari on my iPhone.

When I enter them I get the following message: "Application error: a client-side exception has occurred" and the site is not loading. This happens for example on ign.com or thegameawards.com.

What I already did:

  • Restart phone
  • Delete Browser history etc.
  • Deactivate Adguard
  • Requested the desktop site
  • Contacted Apple support
  • Contacted IGN Support

The funny thing is the site loads without the error when JavaScript is deactivated but the site becomes useless.

On browsers it works perfetctly but I do not have any adblock on them which is annoying. So the problem has to be with Safari.

Does anyone know what I can do?

Thanks in advance

In my case, I was getting this message:

“(Application error: a client-side exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information).”

I have an iPhone 13 Pro, and had all the experimental features disabled. I spent a lot of time going one by one to see which one was affecting me, and finally it was the “Intersection Observer” feature.

I don’t even know what that is, but I’ll find out.

Hope this was helpful.

I believe the problem is with Java Script certificate verification. Evidently websites that use Java Script send a verification certificate to Safari verifying that the website is indeed the site you want to view. However the certificate fails & you receive an error message. I don’t know why Apple cannot address this problem which appears to have started as far back as November.

Just to add an additional touch of confusion: I get this same error on my old iPad (can't update beyond iOS 12.5.5) when trying to access one -- only one -- of the articles in Saturday's (Apr 16) Wall Street Journal from within the WSJ app. It very politely adds "(see the browser console for more information)". Anyone have a clue as to where that "browser console" is on an iPad?
