System Preferences shows an icon called 'Default Apps'. When I select it, I get error message of:

Preferences Error. Could not load Default Apps preference pane.

The first time I selected it, it also said something like this:

RCDefault App is no longer supported and can't be found.

I don't remember the exact words because subsequent clicks doesn't display that message any more - just the first one. Researching, I found that it's an app which no longer exists on my rMBP13 but it exists in a backup folder on external drive.

The files there are RCDefault.prefPane which only allows reinstalling it but not uninstalling it. How do I get rid of this please?

Ctrl-click on the Preference Pan in System Preferences and choose Remove from the contextual menu.
