Ok, I found a workaround in some other thread and it worked for me: Rebuild the Spotlight Index
Apple already published this workaround for another issue and this procedure also rebuilds the calendar search index:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201716
Basically it works like this:
As I understand, these steps "force" to rebuild the spotlight index which then includes the calendar entries.
The rebuild takes a while so don't expect to get search results immediately.
But this procedure worked for me!
Hi there, So far I did not get any further response from you. The problem still persist, also after restarting, and even in Safe Mode. As you can see below, OwlWitch has the same problem. I have responded to your message already on December 3, but I never got a response...
Cheers, Roeland
After my upgrade over the weekend to Monterey 12.6, search no longer worked in iCal. I have now tried the workaround, moving hard drive to files excluded from search, rebooting, same steps and removing hard drive from excluded list, and rebooting. I'm going to wait awhile to check iCal search to see if this does the trick.
Having same issue on OS 12.6 on a brand new M1 Mac Studio with a migrated user. M1 Macbook Air also with migrated user does have have this issue on OS 12.5. Tried re-indexing Spotlight via system preferences and terminal and tried reinstalling OS and neither helped. Very frustrating!
I have: 1) added a new user profile and logged in; 2) booted up in safe mode; 3) reindexed Spotlight. Nothing changed the bug in iCal search. If somebody hears any useful fix from Apple, I'd love to hear it. I just can't spend the time spinning my wheels with them after an upgrade.
I am having exactly the same problem as NookaDizzy on a new MacPro 14" M1Pro chip running Monterey. My son has a new MacBook Air with an M1 chip running Monterey and his Calendar search function works fine - indicates it may not be an OS issue? I might also add that past events don't necessarily show up in a Spotlight search and when they do I only get events in the past year. I was able to search back years in Calendar prior to Monterey and the 14" Macbook Pro. Pretty glitchy Apple!
I am running 12.1 Monterey and this is also a problem for me. I just transfered from my previous computer (MacBook Pro running Catalina) to this one (MacBook Pro running Monterey 12.1) and the seach does not work in ical. I also know how to do this - a bit worried that past OS fixed this glitch but this one does not...
I have the same issue despite a one hour chat with Apple Support (running Monterey 12.2.1 after a successful Time Machine migration from old MacBook). Please get this updated and fixed Apple. Thousands of dollars on a new laptop to run Monterey and I already miss the one that was stuck on Big Sur!
I am having the same problem. "No results" on calendar on my new MacBook Pro with OS Monterey. All other devices (iPhone and iPad ) work just fine. My old MacBook Pro was transferred by the Apple Store. Hasn't worked since I bought it and not willing to mess with spotlight privacy as suggested, I don't know enough about computers and Spotlight does work, but why should I have to go to spotlight every time I need to check something on Calendar? Help
I have just bought a the 24"imac and have the same problem. I cannot search in i-cal anymore. I run an appointment-led business so this is a right pain. I too transferred everything from my MBP. Thanks for your help.
This procedure actually worked. Thank you so much. A note for everyone else giving it a go, Spotlight re-indexes itself so you don't need to do anything, but do wait for a little bit for it to work once you have rebooted, after you have removed your hardisk. It seemed not work for me at first and I tried to find a way of reindexing but a bit of patience paid off.
Come on Apple. People have been struggling with this for almost a year!!! I can't search in my Calendar - main point of having it? SO I can figure out when the last appointment etc was. Fix this, please! I have a brand new Mac Studio - this should not be an issue. (And yes I tried all the hacks that were posted previously in the thread - still nothing.)
Have you spoken to Apple about this? I had an initial call with them, and followed their suggestions (didn't work) as well as others offered here and online (didn't work). I don't have the time to spend with them as they bump this up to the next level for hours, nor do I want to erase my hard drive and reload everything (that was once a suggestion for something else a few years back). This is obviously a bug in Monterey that impacts some but not all of us. A great inconvenience.
I couldn't agree more. I haven't contacted them, no. Neither do I wish to spend hours on something that they should be doing a quick bug fix on. This is so annoying - I use the search feature all the time!
Hi NookaDizzy,
Thanks for the update. I am running Monterey 12.0.1 and Calendar search isn't working - might have to wait for 12.0.2! Oh well.
All the best Mangles6.
Having the same problem for some time now. Running 12.0.1. Someone please resolve this! Thanks.
