iPhone 13 pro Battery health.

I've had my iPhone 13 pro for over a month now and today I noticed it's battery health drop 1% now at 99%. Is this normal?

I'm not a battery freak. But since I got the phone it'd never reach 8 hours. And yesterday I read somewhere that 5G could be turned off and would preserve battery and now I'm at 59% battery after 6 hours of use. So I'm happy in that respect but annoyed my battery health dipped.

Correct LD, I am luck to have my Battery health at 100 percent even after using my iPhone 12 for 7 months.

Have you updated to iOS 15.1.1? You may see a drop in battery health once you do as some iPhone 12 models have been reporting battery health incorrectly and 15.1.1 may get your iPhone to reflect the 'real' battery health. It's most unusual for an iPhone to not have any drop in battery health in 7 months. Of course you can simply not update your phone and believe your battery has remained at 100% in 7 months, but it likely really hasn't.

Battery "health" is merely an estimate of max capacity compared to a notional value.

Batteries vary. They are from more than one manufacturer so the notional max also varies.

Different users charge their phones differently so max charge may not even be reached every time.

The result is unreliable and worries users unnecessarily.

Ignore battery "health" til it gets to 79% is best advice.

Did you read any posts above. Have you used the phone in the two months you've had it, which would require it to be charged, likely daily? I'm sure the answer is yes and yes, since you are using the phone and charging the battery, its health is supposed to decline.

You are worrying over nothing. You can't stop battery health decline. And 1% in two months is quite good, to be honest. But everyone's usage patterns are different. Some will have more health decline and some less, depending on how much the phone is used and charged.

6 months with no drop in battery capacity (aka "Health") is very unusual. You were lucky with that 12.
Charge it all night every night to invoke optimised charging. Don't wait til it's v v low.

It's not necessarily super precise nor accurate to the minute. I too had an iPhone battery that stayed at 100% reported battery healthy for about 6-7 months before dropping to 99%. But then again battery health is an estimate, and one where the updates don't seem to be every day such that one can see every time it drops a percentage point. I've seen it go down in chunks overnight, like 3% here and 4% there where it was putting off the "bad news" for a later date. I wouldn't necessarily rely on seeing it at 99% for months since it could update at any time and drop a few percent.

Another thing is that it's based on 100% of the rated capacity. All battery manufacturing has tolerances where there could be variations in brand new battery capacity. The NiMH batteries I use rated as 2000 mAh typical are labeled as 1900 mAh minimum (of course when new). Haven't there been a few cases where battery health was reporting more than 100%. Or perhaps one where it's less than 100% and it updates quickly.

But then again I think a lot of people are overly obsessing about it. Some do worse and some do better. This is just the nature of modern battery powered electronics. The batteries that Apple uses are subject to the same limitations as any other electronics maker.

Agreed, my iphone 12 is at 99% capacity after 6 months, but that is no reason to complain about my iphone 7 that dropped to 85% after 18 months. I hammered it answering this forum for 18 months and it has a smaller battery. My wife now owns it and it has not dropped below 85% in the same 6 month period. Abusing the battery therefore seems to be a contributory factor.

Green and Red indicators would have been a far better approach. If it shows Red get a new battery fitted, free if it is inside the warranty or AppleCare+ period.

im also have an iPhone 13 pro max for one and half month now.today I saw my battery health dropped to 99% ☹️.is this normal? Cuz one of my friend brought same phone in the same day but his phone didn’t do that.!

It's not super accurate, and it may not even reflect the battery health that Apple can find "under the hood". I had a diagnostic before a battery change where I was told the battery health was 2% less than what iOS was displaying. It really seems like it waits a while, then it updates - often in chunks. When it updates isn't well understood.

Looks like 13PM battery as bad as 12PM… 2% drop after about 3mths .. now at 98% … 99% to 98% within 4 days

Were you somehow under the impression Battery Health doesn't decline? That would be a wrong impression. Battery Health declines with every full cycle battery charge, little by little. It's what batteries do - All Batteries. A decline of 1 - 2%/month is expected. 2% after 3 months is no cause for concern.
